چکیده

A new freshwater diatom species Conticribra sinica sp. nov. Yu, You et Wang from three lakes in the lower reaches of Yangtze River, China, is described here using a combination morphological and molecular data ribosomal DNA genes. The primary distinguishing characteristic C. was presence non-plicate or slightly-plicate valve face single ring marginal fultoportulae that located at junction between mantle. There were 4-11 subcenter face. In addition, rimoportula replaced fultoportulae. Areolae loculate open to outside by irregularly circular foramina slit are radially arranged. Internally, cribra continuously arranged long radial arrangement areolae. Characteristics with other similar Conticribra. Phylogenetic analysis nuclear small subunit (SSU) rDNA sequences large (LSU) gene revealed clade considerable sequence distance species.

Dynamics of the lakes in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River basin, China, since late nineteenth century.

The middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River basin have the most representative and largest concentration of freshwater lakes in China. However, the size and number of these lakes have changed considerably over the past century due to the natural and anthropogenic impact. The lakes, larger than 10 km(2) in size, were chosen from relief maps and remotely sensed images in 1875, 1950, 1970, 1...

Variations of Runoff and Sediment Load in the Middle and Lower Reaches of the Yangtze River, China (1950-2013)

On the basis of monthly runoff series obtained in 1950-2013 and annual sediment load measured in 1956--2013 at five key hydrological stations in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River basin, this study used the Mann-Kendall methods to identify trend and abrupt changes of runoff and sediment load in relation to human activities. The results were as follows: (1) The annual and flood se...

Assessment of Hydrologic Alterations Caused by the Three Gorges Dam in the Middle and Lower Reaches of Yangtze River, China

Hydrologic regime plays a major role in structuring biotic diversity within river ecosystems by controlling key habitat conditions within the river channel and floodplain. Daily flow records from seven hydrological stations and the range of variability approach were utilized to investigate the variability and spatial pattern of the hydrologic alterations induced by the construction of the Three...

Genetic Diversity of Daphnia pulex in the Middle and Lower Reaches of the Yangtze River

Increased human activities and environmental changes may lead to genetic diversity variations of Cladocerans in water. Daphnia pulex are distributed throughout the world and often regarded as a model organism. The 16S rDNA, cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI), and 18S genes were used as molecular marks. The genetic diversity and phylogeny of D. pulex obtained from 10 water bodies in the middle...

Estimation of suspended sediment concentrations using Terra MODIS: an example from the Lower Yangtze River, China.

Traditional measurements of suspended sediment concentrations (SSC) through in-situ sampling in rivers are expensive and time-consuming to perform. Thus, these methods cannot provide continuous SSC records. Although remote sensing has been used for SSC estimation, little research has been undertaken on inland rivers, especially for highly turbid rivers like the Yangtze. Previous studies have pr...
